SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Foundation for TJO Animals held the second Reese Fund Day of Compassion event and Pet Food Drive on October24, to benefit the Reese Fund; a community program established to provide emergency medical and recovery care for animals who have experienced severe neglect, cruelty, or abuse.
The Foundation held a 24-hour online giving campaign in support of the Reese Fund, created in honor of sweet Reese, a dog who endured unimaginable cruelty at the hands of a human.
In addition to the online giving campaign, the Foundation hosted an in-person pet food drive at the Thomas J.O’Connor Animal Control & Adoption Center. The drive supports the Reese Pet Food Initiative, a partnership with Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen in Chicopee, the Gray House in Springfield, and Margaret's Pantry in Holyoke. This program provides pet food and supplies, both onsite and through their mobile delivery service, to families who need extra support to keep their pets healthy, safe, and at home where they belong.
The Foundation set a goal of raising $10,000 for the Reese Fund and collecting 600lbs of pet food for the Pet Food Initiative. Thanks to the generosity of the community, the Foundation surpassed their goal, raising over $12,000 and collecting several hundred pounds of pet food.
Janna Brown, executive director for the Foundation for TJO Animals said, "It’s heartwarming to see so many people in our community come together for animal welfare. From pet food donations to online giving and marketplace purchases, every act of generosity made a difference. Thanks to this incredible support, we surpassed our goal for Reese Day of Compassion and will be able to help even more animals in need. We can’t thank our community enough!"
Businesses that participated in the Pet Food Drive included Western Mass Veterinary Group, Bertera Subaru, and HB Real Estate.
